Altizer introduced special guest speaker, Mr. Nicholas Wingerter, Vice President, Secretary: Bee Trucking, LLC & San Antonio Merchant Shippers, LLC ,.  The following briefly paraphrases Wingerter's presentation:

Wingerter opened by saying that NDTA has a special place in his heart, recalling that Gene Daniels, a very proud NDTA member, had brought him into the (transportation) business.  Wingerter began his slide presentation on Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) by advising that Congress had directed the Department of Transportation (DOT) to develop a better way for oversight of motor carrier safety without additional manpower or money.  DOT responded by developing a regulatory program designed to reduce commercial motor carrier crashes by causing the motor carrier industry to police itself.  It will have a huge impact on how motor carriers operate in the future, said Wingerter.  CSA is a safety program administered by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Under this program, drivers are rated on their safety/driving record every three years.  Companies are rated every two years, using their own safety violation and crash records, as well as those of the drivers they employ.  This, Wingerter stated, will cause companies to dismiss unsafe drivers that cause lower company scores.  Why?  Because freight customers will steer away from companies with a rating other than satisfactory, fearing unsafe transport of their goods.

Cliff Altizer thanked Nicholas Wingerter for his presentation and presented him with a Horse Shoe Business Card Holder in appreciation for addressing the group. photo link
